The Magic of Movement
Imagine a world where a single app could unlock the secrets of your walk, revealing if you’re gliding gracefully with equal weight on both feet. Yes, it’s true—thanks to the wonders of modern tech, there’s an app for that! A student once shared with me how they found an ingenious tool to sense if she was walking with an even stride, and it’s just one of the countless innovations lighting up our lives today. But here’s the kicker: AI and apps can answer our questions and spark curiosity, yet they can’t fully capture the incredible power of sensing our own movement. Let’s dive into this fascinating journey! For movement, it is so powerful to be able to sense what you are doing so that you can do what you really want to do! In Feldenkrais® & ABM Neuromovement® lessons, the power of attention is used for students to learn about one’s movement habits and to learn new ways of moving. Without the attention, it is just movement or, exercise. Thinking, sensing and feeling are weaved into the lessons, helping to create change in the nervous system.
The Power of Awareness in Motion
Awareness is a superpower we all have, the ability to sense what your body is doing opens a world of possibilities. Take Feldenkrais movement lessons, for instance—these transformative sessions harness the magic of attention to teach you about your body’s habits and unveil new, effortless ways to move. With conscious effort, these lessons weave thinking, sensing, and feeling into a beautiful tapestry, helping rewire your nervous system for change, with new and positive habits. Isn’t that mind-blowing?
Each of us carries our own biofeedback system, a natural early-warning network that senses danger—like touching a hot stove or stretching too far in a yoga pose. Our complex design of neural receptors doesn’t just detect threats; it also picks up on subtle imbalances, like favoring one foot while walking or shifting your pelvis unevenly. These receptors in our muscles and joints send signals back to our brain, alerting us to what’s off or different. Pure brilliance!
Breaking Free from Habitual Patterns
But here’s the challenge: when movement becomes habitual, it gets trickier for our brain to spot those differences and imbalances. A limp after an injury that lingers, or the subtle shifts that come with age, are perfect examples of habits taking hold. Luckily, tools like Feldenkrais lessons or ABM Neuromovement come to the rescue! These methods sharpen your focus, using neuroplasticity to craft a sensory movement experience that feels like a total reset. At any age, our brains retain the incredible ability to learn and adapt—how exciting is that?
Reclaiming Your Attention
Too often, I’ve seen students who, amid the hustle of life, turn outward for guidance, seeking wisdom from peers, media, or teachers. It’s human, right? Especially after 16-18 years of traditional schooling, many young adults are conditioned to follow the advice of others rather than listening inward. But what if we flipped the script? Imagine tuning into your breathing, sensing, feeling the impact of your choices—eating, movement in daily life, exercising, lifestyle—and reclaiming your attention. In a world where there are so many distractions for young and older people alike, an inward journey, fine tuning our senses becomes a game-changer.
So, step into the magic of movement! Reawaken your body’s potential, the power is yours to harness. Ready to transform your walk—and your life? Let’s get moving!
